Social Programme

Monday 3 September
An informal barbecue will be held on the evening of Monday 3 September (weather permitting).  The barbecue will be held from 18:00 in the grounds of the Holiday Inn Stratford-upon-Avon.  In case of inclement weather alternative arrangements will be made and participants will be notified as soon as possible.

The barbecue is not included within the registration fee and places must be booked prior to the conference. To reserve your space (if you have not already done so) please e-mail claire.garland@iop.org

Tuesday 4 September
A trip to the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) Swan Theatre has been organised to see Twelfth Night directed by Neil Bartlett.  Full details on the production can be found at www.rsc.org.uk

Those attending the play should gather in the foyer of the Holiday Inn at 19:00 to allow time to walk to the theatre (approximately 5 minutes).

Wednesday 5 September
The scientific programme on Wednesday finishes at 14:30 to allow participants free time to visit some of the many attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon and its surrounding area.  These include:

  • Shakespeare’s Houses (0.5 – 3 miles)
  • Warwick Castle (10 miles)
  • Blenheim Palace (35 miles)
  • Ragley Hall (10 miles)
  • Coughton Court National Trust (10 miles)
  • Charlecote Park National Trust (5 miles)
  • Hatton Country World (7 miles)
  • Hidecote Manor Gardens (10 miles)
  • Stratford Butterfly Farm (1 mile)


The conference dinner and pre-dinner reception will be held at the Heritage Motor Centre 12 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon.  During the reception, participants will have the opportunity to visit the museum which is home to one of the largest collections of historic and British cars in the world, with famous names such as Austin, Triump, Jaguar, Land Rover and Rolls Royce.  The dinner will include a three course menu with wine in the Kestrel Suite overlooking the grounds of the centre.  Transport to the dinner will depart from outside the Holiday Inn Hotel at 18:30.   Coaches will be available from 22:30 to transport participants back to the Holiday Inn.

Guests programme
Guests are welcome to attend the social activities at an additional cost. This includes the welcome reception and barbecue on Monday 3 September and the Conference Dinner on Wednesday 5 September. Places should be booked when completing conference delegate registration. Fees are as follows:

Monday 3 September - Welcome Reception and Barbecue £35 + VAT
Wednesday 5 September - Conference Dinner £45.00 + VAT
