| Venue: | Institute of Physics, London |
| Organised by: | The Magnetism Group of the Institute of Physics |
The workshop forms part of the long running Postgraduate Research in Magnetism series aimed primarily at postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers, providing an overview of experimental techniques and analysis. This workshop will focus on the application of resonant x-rays to the study of magnetism and magnetic materials, including magnetic nanostructures and devices.
Resonant x-rays are utilised both as a probe of magnetic structure due to the close matching of the wavelength with magnetic length scales, and as a spectroscopic tool to understand fundamental magnetic properties such as spin and orbital moments. The workshop will have a broad scope with tutorials covering resonant x-ray magnetic scattering and diffraction, x-ray magnetic dichroism techniques, and magnetic imaging with x-rays. Speakers include Gerrit van der Laan (STFC), Sarnjeet Dhesi (Diamond), Tom Hase (Warwick), Steve Collins (Diamond) and Guillaume Beutier (Diamond). The workshop will provide an invaluable overview of the latest research techniques in this area for those already with some experience, and will be an ideal introduction to the field for anyone considering using resonant x-rays for the first time.
