As part of a fourth year Undergraduate Project, John Yardley has produced a series of podcasts designed to support and enhance the teaching of A level Physics.
These can be directly accessed from the following link:

Currently the two podcasts which have been produced are:
1. Telescopes
This podcast looks at the 14" reflector telescope that is used in the department at Durham. It shows what the principle use for the reflector telescope is, including its use for student projects. Dr John Lucey gives a tour around the dome on the roof. Information is provided to explain the main functions and features of telescopes and scientifically detail why they are designed the way they are.
2. Diffusion Cloud Chamber and Rutherford Scattering
This podcast looks at the development of Rutherford's nuclear model of the atom from Thomson's plum-pudding one by considering a modern arrangement of Rutherford's alpha-particle scattering experiment. Alpha-particles are studied using a diffusion cloud chamber. The scale of the nuclear atom is put into real-world perspective.
