The Group Coordination Committee advises Council on the structure and operation of groups and divisions, including their creation, merging and closure. The committee ensures that the portfolio of groups reflects accurately current and emerging physics activities. It also monitors the activities of groups, including the use of funds. The committee advises Council on matters pertaining to groups and divisions and on mechanisms to deal with policy decisions. It has the responsibility for electing the group and division representatives on Council.
Length of service of committee members
Committee members are elected by groups and divisions via their committees and an election takes place each year. Ordinary members serve three years and representatives on Council serve four years. Terms run from 1 October to 30 September.
