ICWIP 2008

The Women In Physics Group has selected the delegation to attend the 3rd IUPAP International Conference on Women in Physics, to be held in Seoul, South Korea 8 - 10 October 2008. The IUPAP Working Group on Women in Physics was established in 1999 to address the severe under representation of women in physics and develop strategies to increase women physicists worldwide. ICWIP 2008 will consist of six plenary talks, workshops, and poster presentations. The plenary talks will be delivered by prominent women physicists and will cover recent major achievements in each of six areas of physics research.

The UK delegation will be as follows:

  • Gillian Butcher (Team Leader), Post-Doctoral Researcher in space instrumentation from the University of Leicester
  • Saher Ahmed, Diversity Programme Co-ordinator for the Institute of Physics
  • Liz Ainsbury, Senior Radiation Protection Scientist at the Health Protection Agency
  • Sarah Callaghan, Senior Researcher in radio communications at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
  • Frances Downey, a second year PhD student researching breast cancer diagnosis using Raman spectrometry at Kings College
  • Helen Heath, Reader in particle physics at the University of Bristol
  • Julia Kennedy, a second year PhD student researching materials and techniques for instrumentation at the University of Edinburgh
  • Dawn Leslie, Lecturer in secondary maths education at Brunel University
  • Ann Marks, Consultant in physics education at Sheffield University
  • Carla Molteni, Reader in condensed matter theory at Kings College
  • Nicola Wilkin, Lecturer in theoretical physics at the University of Birmingham
