Environmental Physics Essay Competition

The Environmental Physics Group runs an annual essay competition to recognise excellence in communicating the significance, value and rewarding nature of engaging with environmental physics. Entries can cover any aspect of environmental physics including (but not limited to) atmosphere and climate, hydrology, plant physics, waste, energy and the built environment.

The competition is open to all, but entries from students are particularly welcome. Essays must be original and will be judged on writing quality and content. They should be written in an accessible way and should be no more than 2000 words. Essays can be purely scientific in content or can adopt a policy-related or other perspective.

Prize money of up to £500 is on offer and certificates will also be awarded to the winning author(s). The winning entries will also be considered for publication (e.g. in Physics Education). All entrants of the EPG essay competition will be offered 3 months free membership of the Institute of Physics and of the Environmental Physics Group.

The deadline for entries is 31 December 2008. Winners will be notified early in 2009 and will be invited to the Environmental Physics Group's annual meeting, to receive their awards and to present a short synopsis of their essay. This will be held on 25 March 2009, in London.
