European Physical Society (EPS)
The Institute of Physics is a major player in this important organisation, which brings together over 100 000 physicists in Europe. As one of the two large physical societies in Europe, the Institute of Physics together with the German Physical Society provides a large proportion of the EPS funding. Institute members are encouraged to become Individual Members of the EPS and play a larger role in physics in Europe.
European Optical Society (EOS)
The Institute of Physics is a member Society of the EOS through its Optical Group, which is also the UK and Ireland branch of the EOS. Members of the Institute's Optical Group can register as full individual members of the EOS at no further charge. They are encouraged to register to be kept informed of the activities of EOS and of optics across Europe.
European Microscopy Society (EMS)

International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP)
The Institute is the UK's adhering body to IUPAP and has members on its Executive Council and many of its subject-based commissions. A major IUPAP initiative was the World Conference on Physics for Sustainable Development which took place in Durban, South Africa from 31 October to 2 November 2005, in which the Institute was involved.
